Rye Golf Club

Visitors

Rye is a private Club and has a very limited opportunity to welcome visitors without a Member's introduction.

Visitors Terms

Invitations to visiting golfers are made at the Secretary’s discretion. It is mostly easier to accommodate smaller groups.

All play is in two ball format with foursomes preferred, especially in the morning. No three or fourball golf is played. Players wishing to play their own ball, rather than foursomes, will generally be invited to play late morning or after lunch.

Visitors Enquiries & Green Fees

Golfers wishing to visit should kindly enquire by emailing the Secretary.

Names, handicaps and the home Clubs of all players should be provided.

Dress

When meeting before play, golfing attire may be worn in either bar. For gentlemen, a jacket and tie or roll neck is mandatory after 11.00 a.m. in either bar. In the Dining Room, gentlemen must wear jacket and tie.

Ladies may wear golfing attire when meeting before play in either bar. After 11.00 a.m. ladies are expected to dress appropriately when using the bars or dining room so as to complement the dress code applying to gentlemen in these areas.

Ladies and gentlemen may wear golfing attire in the Darwin Bar after 4.00 p.m. daily.

A high standard of dress is expected on the courses and may include the wearing of tailored golf shorts but, for men, only with long socks with a turnover top.

On Arrival At Rye

The Clubhouse opens at 8.00 a.m.

If you have previously been advised of the entry code, please gain access to the Club via the ladies' and gentlemen’s changing facilities, which are located towards the left of the clubhouse, adjacent to the first tee and putting area. If you are not playing, please enter by the main front door adjacent to the Secretary’s office.

You will be welcome to help yourself to coffee in the hall, read the morning’s papers and meet your host and/or playing partners in either bar areas.

If you have not been advised of the entry code prior to your arrival, please visit the Professional’s shop, located on the opposite side of the road to the Clubhouse, where the Club Professional and his team will be happy to help.

LOCKER Rooms

Please feel welcome to make use of the changing facilities. Clothes and shoes must not be changed in the car park. Clubs may be placed in the foyer in both locker rooms but trolleys should not be brought inside.

Golf

All play is in two ball format with foursomes preferred, especially in the morning. No three or fourball golf is played.

Pace Of Play

Speed of play is a very important aspect of golf at Rye, largely because a foursome, to be enjoyable, needs to play 18 holes at a very good pace, and therefore all players, regardless of format, are expected to play their part in ensuring there is adequate time for those lunching and playing again in the afternoon.

Calling other, faster groups through is encouraged at Rye, and there should be no reluctance to do so to ensure that everyone travels at the speed they wish without inconveniencing anyone on the links.

The use of measuring devices is permitted.

Lunch

At the heart of the Club, Rye is proud of its Dining Room and traditional lunch served from noon until two o’clock, 363 days a year.

Tea and cake only is available after golf.

The clubhouse closes promptly at 7.00 p.m.

Mobile Phones

The use of mobile phones and other electronic devices for communication or data purposes is not permitted in any part of the clubhouse, on the terrace, in the car park or on the courses, except:

-       in the locker rooms, when in silent mode, for diary purposes or to check messages,

-       at the phone hood located in the lower hall opposite the Secretary’s office or in a vehicle in the car park, to make or receive essential calls,

-       on the courses, to log scores or measure yardages.
